The Kathak Ensemble & Friends received a 2008 New York City Department of Cultural Affairs Public Service Award for public performances of DOUBLE TAKE: Dancing off the Painted Page and Silver Screen.

Janaki Patrik, Artistic Director of The Kathak Ensemble & Friends, was awarded a 2008 American Institute of Indian Studies Senior Performing Arts Fellowship to study the curricula and methodology for teaching Kathak in Indian institutions, and to study current trends in Kathak choreography.

Please bring your ghungroos (bells) and wear salwar-kameez / kurta-pajamas if you have them, though any comfortable, loose dance costume is acceptable.

May 4 - American Museum of Natural History - entrance Central Park West between 79th and 81st Streets Dancing into the 21st Century, a performance by The Kathak Ensemble & Friends AND Sanskriti Center 3:45 to 4:30pm in the Kaufman Theater on the First Floor jointly presented by the Association of Indians in America and the American Museum of Natural History as part of GLOBAL INDIA

Advanced:
Mon & Tues - 3:30 to 5:30pm
Wed - 2:00 to 4pm
Repertoire - item from the Ashta nayika repertoire, alternately, depending on workshop participants: Ghalib or Amir Khusro - emphasis on abhinaya

Intermediate:
Mon & Tues - 6 to 8pm
Wed - 4:30 to 6pm
Jhaptal or another taal other than teental - the choice will depend on the technical level of workshop participants

Pre-registration for all workshops is required
The Advanced and Intermediate workshops are taught as complete 3-class series only. No single classes.
